Big Dog, Tired Knees: A Pet-Friendly Couch Setup for Large Dogs

This is Dash. He's about 70 pounds, he thinks every couch is his, and his back knees aren't what they used to be.
We have four cats too. So the furniture in our house works hard.
I'm shopping for a dog couch for my office so Dash has his own spot near me. While I was comparing, I made the list I wish someone had handed me. It comes down to three things.
Protect the couch. Give him his own soft landing. Make getting up easier.
I haven't tested these yet. I compared what matters for a big dog with sore joints and picked the ones worth a look.
1. Protect the Couch First
If your big dog is already on the couch, don't fight it. Cover it.
What to check before you buy:
A waterproof layer, not just "water resistant."
A backing that grips, so it doesn't slide every time he jumps up.
The right size. Measure your seat width before you order.
The pick: hyha couch cover for dogs.
Also good: Smiry waterproof couch cover, if accidents or muddy paws are the real problem.

2. Give Him His Own Soft Landing
A big dog with tired joints needs more than a flat cushion.
What to check before you buy:
Real orthopedic foam that doesn't flatten under a heavy dog.
A low front edge so he can step in, not climb in.
A bolster to rest his head on.
A cover that comes off and goes in the wash.
Size up. Measure your dog lying stretched out, then add a few inches.
The pick: Bedsure orthopedic dog bed.

For the biggest dogs: Bedsure SupportMax orthopedic large dog bed.

If he wants a couch of his own: JOEJOY orthopedic dog couch bed for large dogs. This is the kind I'm looking at for my office.

If you end up on the floor with him anyway: EHEYCIGA orthopedic human dog bed. It is a 72 by 44 inch foldable bed, sized for a person and a big dog to share.
3. Make Getting Up Easier
For a dog with sore back legs, the jump is the hard part. A ramp gives him a gentle slope instead.
What to check before you buy:
A grippy surface, not slick wood.
A slope that isn't too steep for his size.
The right height for your couch or bed.
The pick: Easyego large wooden dog ramp for bed and couch.
If your dog is limping or stiff, check with your vet first. They can tell you what's safe for his joints.
Bonus: A Spot Outside Too
Farm dogs spend a lot of time outside. Here in Oregon, that means wet ground most of the year.
A raised bed keeps him off the cold, damp ground and lets air move underneath.
The pick: PETSFIT elevated outdoor dog bed.

The Quick Checklist
Cover the couch he already uses.
Give him his own supportive bed or dog couch.
Add a ramp if jumping is getting hard.
Measure twice: your couch, your bed height and your dog.
You don't have to do all of it this weekend. Start with the one that fixes your biggest headache.
