Real Life with Alyssa

Hi, I’m Alyssa.

Wife. Mom of two. Farm-life figure-outer. The person who reads every review, buys the thing and tells you whether it was worth it.

Real life, for real

I live on 19 acres in Oregon with my husband, our teenage son and our girl. Also: Dash, a 70-pound dog who thinks he’s a lap dog. Four cats. Thirteen chickens we call The Egg Committee. And for now, eight of our neighbor’s cattle, including a bull named Wubs.

Our house is a barndominium with a big open living space and pets on every piece of furniture. Our water is so full of iron and sulfur that we haul in bottled water every week. We designed our chicken coop ourselves.

So when I say “real life,” I mean it.

Where I come from

I spent 15 years in healthcare. I started at the front desk and worked my way up through scribing, the business office, hospice, social work and grief counseling, and then into leadership. Along the way I earned a bachelor’s in psychology and an MBA in healthcare management.

Those years taught me that people deserve straight answers. Not guesswork. Not a sales pitch. I bring that to everything I share here.

Why this site exists

I’m rebuilding my career, my income and my life with God at the center. This blog is part of that.

Here I share the things I use in my kitchen, my canning setup, my coop and my very full house. I tell you what a product actually fixes, who it’s for and when to skip it. I’ll always be clear about what I’ve used myself and what I’ve only researched.

Used, not unboxed.
